Sharon Allen Art

I work with changes in light and my surroundings throughout the day on location or in the studio with my own photographic references. My inner soul or spirit then expresses through the use of transparent watercolor the shapes and feelings in a tangible and sometimes intangible manner to engage the viewer.

About Sharon Allen

Sharon Allen is an award-winning artist by birth and a resident of Dania Beach, Florida. Her first painting was in oil. “Lavender Tree”, her teacher took it home, and Sharon never received it back. (She was 4 years old.)
Her Grandfather and Grandmother were a Yiddish actor. Her grandmother taught her to embroider, knit, and crochet. Her paternal grandmother had a knit shop complete with a modern machine. Sharon’s mother was a painter, too. Later Sharon got a Brownie camera to begin another medium that was so new. Sharon grew up in Miami and was the class artist, her work was displayed in all those classes enclosed displays. She attended Miami Dade Jr. college for an art education and received an associates
of art degree. David Gossoff, Duane Hanson, James Cooper, and Michael Klezmer were some of her instructors. Later she won a first prize in Photography and was offered full access forever at the downtown Miami Sampus. She continued on to FIU, FAU, and Barry College. Later she attended a special independent program at Barry University. Everything from drawing and ceramics to painting, sculpture and printmaking intrigued her then and now. A visit to Key West and Stock Island brought her to Keys Community College and the wonderful Mud Pi club.
Two years in Hawaii resulted in a first prize with Hawaii Watercolor Society. Sharon joined Miami Watercolor Society in 2022 and walked into a gathering of artists that accepted her as a peer. Three awards later I am a signature member of Miami Watercolor Society. Then I went to my first FWS convention in Punta Gorda. Great energy there. I joined Gold Coast Watercolor Society right away and have won an honorable mention and a 3rd place ribbon in the Wilton Manors Show at gallery 21 juried show at the Coral Springs Museum.
Last year, she went to Photo Nola in New Orleans and had the opportunity to show her work. She won first and third prizes for the state of Florida Woman’s Club Federation.
This year she won a first, second, and honorable mentions regionally through the Ft Lauderdale Woman’s Club.
